i see a lot of friendly reminders not to assume that ace or gray-a people have been abused. good. this is very important.
but it’s also important to remember that if somebody has been abused — if something in their past has affected their sexuality — it doesn’t make their asexuality less valid. the reasons for somebody’s sexuality, whether innate or learned, are not other people’s concern.
somebody’s background shouldn’t ever inform or alter your respect of their identity.
